The INTERGENERATIONAL LGBT ARTIST RESIDENCY is both a curatorial consultancy and a summer artist residency on Toronto Island. The first intergenerational artist-in-residency program for LGBTQ2+ visual artists in Canada, The Intergenerational LGBT Artist Residency offers studio space, travel support and free room and board to juried applicants for the duration of the two-week residency. Residents also receive mentoring and studio visits from critically acclaimed artists and curators. The aim of THE INTERGENERATIONAL LGBT ARTIST RESIDENCY is a vision and experience of sustainability through shared practice, art career management training, and community building via Canadian LGBTQ2+ art and political histories, with a decolonial analysis, for an explicitly intergenerational cohort. (English fluency is not required, landed immigrant status is not required.)
The Intergenerational LGBT Artist Residency complete archive is housed and maintained by The ArQuives (formerly Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives), the largest independent LGBTQ archive in the world, thus elevating our ongoing endeavour to support the practices and study of LGBTQ2+ artists. All previous applicants are invited to attend our annual workshop with CARFAC, to learn about artists rights and contracts, specifically in terms of the complexities of contemporary queer lives.
